Was already pumped for this weekend for Indy and Pirelli. And now even more now because IMSA is coming for 2018! Haven’t seen anyone post it yet. Also sorry COTA they are skipping next year.

I loved that early CTS-V livery, I was sad when they exchanged the silver for flat black. I hate flat black.

I’m aware, but that was gloss black:

I’ve always wanted somebody to make the early silver coupe in 1:18.

Not quite sure how I feel about losing the COTA round, but I’m glad theres no date clash with CTMP.

I’m on the other side of the country collecting all my stuff, will be back and settle in a couple weeks, so I’ll miss it.

So mad right now. It wasn’t hard to see that something at COTA wasn’t working, though. Races outside F1 and events that aren’t concerts there just don’t get much promotion, like they don’t know what to do with it beyond a grade-A wonderful social team. There’s a lot of turnover in personnel year-to-year, and they try their hardest, but man, I kinda feel like they do what they can for non-F1 stuff. “We’ve got a thing!” Neat. Now convince your higher-ups to make a bigger deal out of the thing? Because we just lost one of my favorite things and I’m fuming mad about it.

People hardly knew there was a race for IMSA’s standalone weekend last year. “You’re missing the first day of LeMons for what? Ohhh that’s happening this weekend? Ohhh.” Plus, there were the weird broadcast issues (no live TV in the U.S.—what the crap? I had to tell my browser it was from Austria just to get a live TV feed to screencap on-site, in the race’s own media pit), the fact that it was scheduled on the hot part of the day about when even the locals start to be weenies about the heat, and also the Thurs.-Sat. schedule. Out in the real world, convincing your normal-work boss to skip a Friday to go watch #maximumparsh dominate is hard.

Yo, COTA. You’re a race track first and foremost. Act like it. Promote the race track better, and put their schedule as a priority. It takes a lot more time and effort to set up a track weekend for a big travelling series than it does for, say, a concert or a quickie club/practice rental.

I know the IMSA/WEC combo weekend was hard on everybody behind the scenes to make happen, but that was probably their best bet at making a moderate crowd show up with minimal promotion. Otherwise, welp. :(

I’m glad to see Mid-Ohio get a race because it’s a beloved classic track, but man, the northeast corner of the U.S. gets a ton of racing action and Texas is a stupid empty hole in the middle of the southern part of the country.

Also, the timing can eat every eggplant-shaped male appendage in existence. Screw this week. Month. Year. Everything.

I hate flat black, too. Unless you’re in the wastelands milking radioactive poopbeasts for water, like, knock it off. It’s played-out and over.

Yeah I agree that COTA has been handling race series wrong. F1 isn’t the only racing series but seems like it is to them. My biggest thing was when the track originally was being built, it was supposed to be the pinnacle of race tracks for the US, the biggest and the best. But with its scheduling and like you said, being almost impossible to see on TV, they have lost that hype. Don’t get me wrong they did bring F1 back but during the wrong time of the year because, especially in Texas, football is #1.

Plus if they are the biggest and best why haven’t they gotten the biggest in the US, Indy or Nascar? I know your article awhile back made sense about it being too close to Texas motor speedway for Indycar. But come on it’s been 4 years and everyone wants to see Indy there, get it done. NASCAR has been smart and tests the tracks viability with Xfinity or whatever it is now. I think it’s time to see those 3000 lb cars curb hopping. I mean it’s hilariously entertaining at Mid-ohio especially in rain . I think that would bring hype back to COTA.
